America’s Stonehenge
Introduction

INTRODUCTION

America’s Stonehenge is a large complex of prehistoric stone structures situated on Mystery Hill in north Salem, New Hampshire. The archaeological site and stone structures covers approximately 100 acres. On the exposed bedrock summit of the hill is the main complex which covers about one acre. It contains numerous stone chambers, enclosures, standing stones, drains, and basins. Around the perimeter of the summit are several solar alignments for the Summer Solstice sunrise and sunset, Winter Solstice sunset, and Equinox sunrise. The site was built over a 2500 year period beginning around 1000 B.C. Based upon architectural styles and other archaeological evidence, the construction of site occurred in five phases. Below you will find a series of chapters on different aspects of the site.
